a father to the fatherless

25 Oct

Well, it’s been a while since I last posted, and though in some ways it feels like not much has happened, October has been a fairly busy month so far. πŸ™‚

For one, we went on a week long trip up to Philadelphia, to a conference about helping children with brain development problems (special needs). It was very educational, and I’m looking forward to starting the program both with Talyah, and Yuri, whenever we get him. πŸ™‚ I’ll definitely be posting about some of the things that we learned there, especially as I start using them more.

Also, Β the online Silent Auction ended on the 19th. We got about $1,000 from it, so yay! πŸ™‚ It’s interesting to think about – if just 600 people raised/earned/gave $50, we’d have enough to bring two little boys home from the orphanage in Ukraine. Β 1,200 people – just 25 dollars each. “Many hands and light work” anyone? πŸ˜‰

If the body of Christ rose up, with the arms supporting the hands, the legs powering the feet, with the body simply being the body of Christ, what could God do through that willingness to join together, and sacrifice just a little of the abundance we’ve been given to share in blessing those who have nothing?

See, I know many people aren’t able to physically adopt – whether from lack of finances, space, time, ability, etc. – but how many would be able to just give a twenty dollar bill? Β 1,500? Because that would be enough, to give a father to one of the fatherless.

“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction,” -James 1:27a
